What are the steps for colposcopy examination

1. Go to the examination table, lie flat and put your feet in the stirrups.
2. Insert a metal dilator into the vagina to support the vaginal wall. This helps doctors to examine the cervix.
3. A weakly acidic acetic acid solution may be applied to the cervix to display abnormal cells. There may be a tingling sensation.
4. The doctor checks for abnormal cells in the vagina and cervix.
5. If tissue samples are taken from the cervix, there may be some pain or strong spasms. The feeling will disappear in about one minute.
